Though Tennessee Tech was shut out Saturday between the hedges, one of its players is alleged to have scored a pricey laptop computer during his stay in Athens.

A UGA student told detectives that an unidentified player stole the $1,600 computer while visiting her Mitchell Bridge Road apartment, said Athens-Clarke County Police spokeswoman Hilda Sorrow.

A spokesman for the school's athletics department said all active players were accounted for during the entirety of the trip. The football team stayed at a hotel in Atlanta Friday night, took a bus to Athens Saturday morning and left directly from Sanford Stadium following the 1 p.m. game, said Assistant Athletic Director Rob Schabert.

It's possible, however, that the player in question is on the roster but currently inactive, meaning he would not be traveling with the rest of the team, Schabert said.

The UGA student, who was not home at the time, said she suspects the player because mutual friends told her that he had stolen before.

Lt. Mark Durham, who's leading the investigation, refused comment.
