CSX trains are moving again through the area of Barrow County where three rail cars derailed shortly after midnight Monday, officials said.
But crews are still working to repair portions of the main track that were damaged by limestone, CSX spokeswoman Laura Phelps told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday.
“CSX is developing a plan to remove two damaged rail cars from a staging area near the tracks,” Phelps said. “That work will begin as soon as work schedules allow.”
It is unclear when repairs will be completed.
Roads near the incident were closed for more than six hours after the train derailed at Atlanta Highway and Bowman Mill Road, Barrow sheriff’s officials said.
Trains were moving Monday evening along an adjacent track at slower than usual speeds due to construction work.
There were no injuries or hazmat spills in the incident and the cause of the derailment is under investigation, Phelps said.
