A serious injury crash shut down all lanes on I-20 East at Fairburn Road in Douglas County for hours Friday morning.

Three children were injured in a crash on I-20 East in Douglas County on Friday morning that at times blocked all lanes of the interstate.

The east lanes of the interstate were shut down between Chapel Hill Road and Fairburn Road for more than three hours, jamming the morning commute from the Westside. The interstate reopened at 10:20 a.m. once an investigation was finished, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The crash involved three vehicles and injured five people, including three children traveling in the same car. A fourth child in the car was not injured.

Two of the children were flown to area hospitals, and the third was taken to a hospital in an ambulance, according to Douglasville police.

Two adults were also taken to a local hospital. Police have not provided an update on their conditions.

“We then had an additional car accident involving two more vehicles in the same area,” Douglasville police Capt. Brad Stafford said. The vehicles involved were distracted by the initial crash, he said.

While two medical helicopters were on scene at 8 a.m., all I-20 westbound traffic was held for about 15 minutes.
