The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Paulding County Sheriff's deputy remains in jail Monday after refusing to cooperate with law enforcement officers following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, authorities said.

Deputy Patric Huston "initially refused to communicate or cooperate" with deputies who responded to a domestic violence call at his Douglasville home late Saturday night, the GBI said.

There were reports that Huston was armed and threatened to harm himself, authorities said. The SWAT team was called out, and Huston surrendered early Sunday.

Huston, 36, was taken to Wellstar Paulding Hospital. There he became combative with deputies, according to the GBI, which said alcohol might have played a role.

Huston, a nine-year veteran of the sheriff's office, was booked into the Paulding County Detention Center on a misdemeanor obstruction charge. He is being held without bond, and more charges could be filed.

The GBI continues to investigate the incident, and the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office has opened an internal affairs investigation.

Huston is on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of both investigations.
