Police are searching for a man who shot an acquaintance in the buttocks and then led police on a chase through Clayton County.

Two men began arguing outside a home in the 6000 block of Ga. 85 in Riverdale on Thursday afternoon, Clayton County police spokesman Officer Kevin Hughes said.

The argument escalated and one pulled a gun. He then shot his acquaintance in the buttocks and climbed into a car, Hughes said.

Officers were on the way to the shooting when a witness flagged down a patrol car to point out the suspect’s vehicle, Hughes said.

“The officer got behind the car and he refused to stop. He [the officer] chased it until the guy crashed,” he said.

The suspect then abandoned his car and ran, police said. Officers searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect.

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Hughes said. His identity was unavailable.

Police are investigating, but said the victim and suspect knew each other. Neither lived at the location of the shooting, Hughes said.
