Sunny skies expected through weekend
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Sunny days are here again.
The National Weather Service says skies will be clear through at least Monday with temperatures expected in the low 60s Thursday, climbing into the 70s this weekend.
Two days of heavy rain left most of north Georgia soggy. Flooding continued late Wednesday night near Conyers and in north Fulton County, while floodwaters were receding in Vinings.
National Weather Service forecasters at the Peachtree City center canceled a flood warning for the Chattahoochee River in the Vinings area, saying the river was at 13.4 feet and falling at 8 p.m.
But at Campbellton, near the Fulton and Douglas county lines, flood warnings remained with a steady level of 21.5 feet, above the 20-foot flood stage.
In Alpharetta and Roswell and along the Forsyth County border, Big Creek was said to be at moderate flood stage, just over 10 feet, but dropping.
A National Weather Service flood warning remains in effect until Thursday evening where the Yellow River near Conyers was at 13 feet and rising.
Atlanta's official rainfall total for Tuesday of 4.05 inches set a new record for the date, eclipsing the old record of 2.57 inches set in 1966.
Lake Lanier's level climbed by more thanĀ a foot, to over 1,072 feet above sea level.
Thursday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 62. Thursday night will be clear, with a low around 40.
Friday will be sunny with a high near 68.
The weekend forecast calls for sunny skies Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low 70s. Monday will be sunny with a high in the mid-60s.
