Sun, cooler temperatures on the way

Finally, the rain is gone. Sunday should bring drier air and sunshine, according to forecasters.

"We're not forecasting any more rain until the end of the week," said meteorologist Patricia Atwell with National Weather Service, based in Peachtree City.
As heavy rains swept through the metro area Saturday afternoon, many feared a repeat of the floods from earlier this week. Between an inch to two inches of rain fell, prompting flash flood warnings. But no major flooding was reported.
"It's been a little busy," said Mike Earwood, Paulding County fire chief. "If it doesn't rain too much more, we'll be okay."
No major problems were reported in Cobb, Douglas, Paulding and Carroll counties, areas devastated by the historic floods.
By later Saturday evening, all of the flood warnings and flood watch advisories had been lifted.
The high temperature Sunday should be in the upper 70s, Atwell said. But those temperatures should start to drop this week, and highs will only reach the mid-70s.
It will start to feel like autumn in the morning and evenings, Atwell said. Tuesday morning, it will be in the 50s, she said.
The next chance of rain for the metro area will be next Saturday, at the earliest.
