Strong winds, hail possible Friday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Strong storms that could bring damaging winds and hail are forecast for late Friday morning through the afternoon.
By Saturday, clouds will linger with the potential for scattered showers, WSB-TV meteorologist Brad Nitz said. The weekend will be cooler, but drier. Highs on Friday will reach the mid-60s, and drop by about 10 degrees Saturday.
Heavy fog settled over metro Atlanta early Thursday afternoon, causing flight delays at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The fog is expected to last throughout the evening, Nitz said.
The FAA said the fog was causing delays of some inbound flights by an hour and 15 minutes. The arrival delays could affect some departures as well, the FAA said. Passengers should check with their airline for specific delay information.
While the flood watch posted for much of metro Atlanta on Wednesday has expired, flood and high water warnings remain in effect across the state.
The Flint River -- in Crawford, Talbot, Taylor and Upson counties -- is expected to crest its banks, according to National Weather Service forecasters. The Flint is expected to be a foot over flood stage by early Saturday. The flood warning for the Flint is in effect until Saturday night.
High water warnings were in effect on Thursday for rivers in several Georgia counties: the Chattahoochee in Lee, Russell, Chattahoochee, Muscogee and Stewart counties; and the Oconee in Baldwin, Washington and Wilkinson counties.
Wednesday night, several tornadoes damaged dozens of homes across Arkansas. There were injuries in some of the storms, but no fatalities have been reported.
