Tracey Russell has resigned as the executive director of the Atlanta Track Club, which produces the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, to accept a similar position running the L.A. Marathon.
Russell will remain with the ATC through the Peachtree Road Race, which will be held on its traditional Fourth of July date. She is refusing numerous interview requests.
Russell has worked at the Atlanta Track Club for the past six years after working for 12 years with Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers. Charles Crawford, chairman of the ATC board, said a search committee will be formed to find the next executive director.
According to a release given to the media, Russell will be tasked with helping L.A. Marathon LLC, which runs the L.A. Marathon, increase its participation, viewership, charitable donations and sponsorship for its races.
Russell is the second executive director of an annual sports event in Atlanta to leave in the past month. Bob Bryant resigned as chairman of the BB&T Atlanta Open earlier this month to accept a position with the 500 Festival in Indianapolis.
