High School Rankings: Collins Hill, North Gwinnett tied atop AAAAAA

By Todd Holcomb

For the AJC

A victory over fifth-ranked Peachtree Ridge kept Collins Hill in a tie for first place with No. 1-ranked North Gwinnett in Region 7-AAAAAA. It also lifted the Eagles (5-0) into the Top 10 for the first time since 2011.

Collins Hill (5-0, 3-0) plays at home Friday against eighth-ranked Norcross, the defending AAAAAA champion. Both are in deep Region 7, which has seen five different teams ranked this season.

Also joining the AAAAAA Top 10 is Valdosta. Out are Peachtree Ridge and Milton.

Etowah, the only unbeaten team not in the Top 10 in the highest classification, knocked off Milton 24-15 but remained unranked. Etowah plays in a region whose strength is less certain.

Other new teams in the rankings are Lee County for South Paulding in AAAAA, Burke County for Stockbridge in AAAA, Blessed Trinity for Pierce County in AAA and Emanuel County Institute for Savannah Christian in A.

The top game this week will be in DeKalb County as 1 Tucker plays No. 2 Stephenson in AAAAA.
