Former Georgia Tech defensive tackle T.J. Barnes and cornerback Rod Sweeting both received invitations to the NFL Scouting Combine, held in Indianapolis Feb. 20-26.

Their inclusion among 333 draft-eligible players is an indication of their candidacy as draftable players. Projections have Sweeting being a possible fourth- or fifth-round selection, while Barnes may go later.

As former Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill proved last year, a strong combine showing can be invaluable in improving draft stock. Hill, who left Tech after his junior season despite feedback from the NFL draft advisory board that he didn’t have the potential to be drafted in the first three rounds, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds, a performance that put him on his way towards becoming the 43^rd overall pick of the draft in April.

Tech’s other draft-eligible players, including defensive lineman Izaan Cross, A-back Orwin Smith and guard Omoregie Uzzi , will have an opportunity to perform for scouts at Tech’s pro day March 14.
