Florida State starter Peter Miller pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings Sunday in Tallahassee as the Seminoles defeated Boston College 9-1 to complete a three-game sweep and remain undefeated on the season.
The junior right-hander allowed six hits and two walks while striking out seven.
The Seminoles (15-0, 3-0 ACC) are off to their best start since 2007, when they opened the season with a school-record 23 straight wins.
“I think anytime you are able to win three games on the weekend in the Atlantic Coast Conference, you have to be extremely pleased,” FSU coach Mike Martin said. “I was today.”
Dating back to his second start of the season, Miller (3-0) has not allowed a run in his last 17 innings and has given up just four runs, two earned, in 19 1/3 innings in four starts this year.
FSU’s Jose Brizuela, a sophomore third baseman, was 3-for-4, including a two-run triple, and had four RBIs.
Boston College slipped to 3-11 overall, 0-3 in the ACC.
FSU, No. 18 in Baseball America’s college rankings, will travel to Gainesville for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday against Florida.
Indiana 7, Florida 4: Left-hander Kyle Hart carried a shutout into the eighth inning and sophomore Kyle Schwarber went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to power the visiting Hoosiers (8-3) past the Gators (8-9) to claim the rubber match of the teams’ series.
UF, which battled back with four runs in the eighth, was led by Vickash Ramjit, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Miami 5, Duke 3: Behind a dominant start from left-hander Andrew Suarez, the Hurricanes (13-4, 1-2 ACC) beat the visiting Blue Devils (8-7, 2-1) to avoid a three-game sweep.
Suarez (2-1), a sophomore, went a career-high seven innings, scattering six hits while allowing just one earned run. Suarez, who struggled last time out against Florida, rebounded to help the Hurricanes earn their first conference win of 2013.
Chantz Mack singled in two runs and Alex San Juan and Alex Hernandez added RBI singles for Miami.
Florida Atlantic 7, Toledo 5: Mark Nelson homered twice and drove in four runs as the Owls (10-6) defeated the visiting Rockets (4-9).
St. Francis (Ind.) 7, Northwood 6: Stephen Fernandez and Christian Santo had RBI singles, but the host Seahawks (18-9-1) fell to the Cougars (2-4). Northwood stranded the potential tying run at second base in the final inning. Tyler Gregory blasted a three-run home run for St. Francis.
