By Chris Vivlamore

The NBA downgraded the Flagrant 1 foul accessed to the Hawks’ Zaza Pachulia on the Heat’s LeBron James during last month’s game.

The center was called for the foul with 10:42 remaining in the first quarter of the contest on Feb. 20 at Philips Arena.

According to the league rules, the league office reviews all flagrant fouls, both 1 and 2, and has the right, following the review, to reclassify such a foul. It can also classify as flagrant a foul not called flagrant during a game.

Pachulia was also called for a Flagrant 1 foul on Feb. 23 against the Bucks. According to league rules, a player will receive one point for Flagrant 1 fouls and two points for Flagrant 2 fouls. If the player’s season total exceeds five points, he will receive an automatic suspension following the game in which his point total exceeds five points. For each additional flagrant foul committed the suspension increases.
