With the rain holding off for a little while, the 44th Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race started with the wheelchair athletes at 6:45 a.m.

Josh Cassidy won men's wheelchair in 21:14. Manuela Schar won the women's wheelchair race.

Lineth Chepkurui of Kenya won the women’s division of the 44th Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race on Thursday. This was her third Peachtree win.

Competing in drizzly conditions, Chepkurui finished the 6.2-mile course in 32:07. The race hadn’t been run in the rain since 1994. The race started at 7:17 a.m. at Lenox Square under yellow-flag conditions signifying exercise caution because of the weather. The start-time temperature was 70 degrees.

Temperatures were in the high 60s-low 70s.

The women’s professional footrace division is scheduled to start at 7:17 a.m., followed by the men’s pro division at 7:30 a.m.

The 6.2-mile course will begin at Lenox Square and finish at Piedmont Park.

The weather, which is expected to stay moderately clear until 10 a.m., combined with an increased police presence after the tragic events in Boston earlier this year is giving this year’s race a slightly different feel than in year’s past.

Meteorologists predicted heavy rains today. The race hasn’t experienced rain since 1994.

Many runners were joking on twitter that they were ready for the AJCPRR biathlon: running and swimming. But the rain stopped around 5:30 a.m.

A better Georgia Tech yields only an emphatic loss

Georgia Tech got the start it wanted and, at least for a little while, ran the option the way Paul Johnson wants it run.
