Roswell couple killed in plane bound for DeKalb-Peachtree Airport

A Roswell couple returning home from their daughter's college golf tournament was killed Tuesday morning when their planed crashed in northern Mississippi.

James "Jim" and Elizabeth Judson were headed back to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport when their plane crashed, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The single-engine plane took off from Olive Branch, Miss., said Kathleen Bergen, FAA spokeswoman.

The Hawker Beechcraft Bonanza, a single-engine airplane manufactured in 1992, went down Tuesday in Alcorn County, Miss., Bergen said.

The plane took off around 10:30 a.m., Atlanta time, according to flightaware.com. The plane arrived in Mississippi on Sunday, according to the website.

The Judsons' daughter, Lauren, is a member of the University of Southern Mississippi golf team, which played in a weekend tournament in Memphis, according to the school's website.

Officials at the Corinth-Alcorn County Airport told WTVA.com they were notified the plane had disappeared from radar shortly before a tornado warning was issued for the area.

Jim Judson, 52, made a fortune when he sold his computer software company, Witness Systems Inc., his father told the Associated Press. He also served on the board of directors of CreditHawk LLC. In 1998, Call Center Magazine named Jim Judson a "Call Center Pioneer" for his work at the company he founded.

Elizabeth Judson, 51, earned a PhD. from Georgia Tech.

The couple also is survived by a college-age son.
