Roads safer this holiday weekend

Thirteen deaths were reported on Georgia roads over Thanksgiving weekend, three fewer than than anticipated.

The Georgia State Patrol had predicted 16 deaths in crashes during the 102-hour holiday period, which began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ended at midnight Sunday

Among the 13 deaths reported were fatalities in Fulton and Gwinnett counties,  according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

A total of 3,089 crashes resulting in 730 injuries have also been reported, according to state officials. Those numbers are below the 3,570 accidents and 1,398 injuries predicted.

During the same period in 2008, 19 people died on Georgia roads, and 3,815 accidents led to 1,457 injuries.
