Renewable energy plant to create jobs in Valdosta
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A renewable energy plant will create 25 jobs and bring an investment estimated at $110 million to Valdosta, Gov. Sonny Perdue announced Tuesday.
Atlanta-based Sterling Energy Assets, through its subsidiary Wiregrass Power, LLC, will build the 40-megawatt power plant on 22 acres.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for next year with commercial startup in 2012. The plant, powered by wood waste and sludge from a nearby wastewater treatment plant, will produce and sell electricity to Georgia utilities.
The plant will consume an estimated 12 tons of sludge daily, a byproduct that otherwise would end up in landfills, according to Perdue’s office.
