Q&A on the News
For the AJC
Q: I am a very senior citizen now living in a retirement home with no automobile or means of travel. My present driver’s license will expire shortly, and as I have moved, the address on the license is no longer valid. How can I obtain a new I.D. card?
—Alex Lindsay, Atlanta
A: Georgia driver's license holders can request a Georgia identification card at www.dds.ga.gov , Susan Sports, the public information officer for the Georgia Department of Driver Services, told Q&A on the News. To be eligible for online service, customers must have a recent photograph on file with the DDS that can be used (older photos may not be compatible) and not be expired more than two years. If there is no satisfactory photo available, customers must go to a DDS office, Sports said. An address change can be made at the same time as the ID request. Customers must have changed their address with the U.S. Postal Service in advance of the DDS online service request. Customers who are not eligible for online service can call the DDS Customer Contact Center at 678-413-8400.
Q: The University of Georgia just kicked three players off the football team. Do they lose their scholarships?
—Mary Edwards, Griffin
A: The dismissed players -- defensive backs Nick Marshall and Chris Sanders and receiver Sanford Seay -- lost their scholarships, UGA athletic department spokesman Claude Felton said. “We assist in finding them other places to continue their education,” he said.
