Publix is recalling a batch of ice cream that could cause a fatal reaction for people allergic to almonds.

The product lot code on the bottom of the carton is ‘Sep 12 2011 B7 PLT 12-444,’ but the packaging is an easy clue: the product is packaged with a Light Tiramisu Ice Cream carton and an Almond Fudge Light Ice Cream lid.

The packages may contain almonds that do not appear on the carton label, said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," Black warned Monday. He said the recall affects Publix stores in Georgia and four other states: Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Black said Publix learned of the problem when a consumer noticed the "mix-matched" packaging.
