The Kroger Co. is recalling some of its own branded ice cream because it may contain an allergen that could kill people who are allergic to tree nuts.

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin announced the recall Monday, saying the Cincinnati-based grocery store chain was concerned that some batches of its Deluxe Chocolate Paradise Ice Cream may contain tree nuts not listed on the label.

People who are allergic to tree nuts could suffer a life-threatening reaction if they eat the ice cream, Irvin said.

The recall affects 48-ounce containers with a Jan. 24, 2011 "sell by" date and the following UPC Code: 11110 50712.

Customers with allergies who have purchased the ice cream can return it to Kroger for a full refund or replacement, Irvin said.

For more information, call Kroger at 800-632-6900 or go to www.kroger.com/recalls.
