Police: Man set girlfriend ablaze in Athens
The Associated Press
Athens-Clarke County police say a 42-year-old woman was doused with kerosene and set on fire and was taken to an Augusta hospital.
Police say Elisa Davenport suffered burns to her legs, body and face.
They say officers responded to a report of an apartment fire early Tuesday and found the woman outside on the ground.
Officers arrested 49-year-old Phillip Scruggs and charged him with aggravated assault and first-degree arson. They describe him as the woman’s boyfriend. They say the woman was hospitalized and on life support.
