Peachtree-Dunwoody bridge reopens
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Three bridges closed due to flood damage in September 2009 will reopen this week.
The Georgia Department of Transportation made the announcement Monday afternoon.
The bridges -- Peachtree-Dunwoody Road over Nancy Creek, Redan Road over Snapfinger Creek, and State Route 166 over Anneewakee Creek -- were damaged to the point of being unsafe, officials said.
“We are very glad to be getting these bridges opened,” DOT district construction engineer Mickey McGee said in a statement. “We had no choice in replacing these bridges … and understand the inconvenience that the public had to bear.”
The Peachtree-Dunwoody Road bridge reopened Tuesday afternoon and the other two will reopen later in the week, officials said.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 2 p.m. for the Peachtree-Dunwoody Road bridge, said Judy Parker, Sandy Springs spokeswoman.
Another bridge, Riverside Drive over Marsh Creek, is scheduled to reopen in mid-April.
