Northwest metro counties under storm watch
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A severe thunderstorm watch was posted Friday night for several metro counties, as a line of strong storms began moving into northwest Georgia.
The watch was issued for 21 Georgia counties, including Cobb, Cherokee, Douglas, Paulding and Bartow counties in metro Atlanta, effective until midnight.
In the extreme northwest corner of the state, Catoosa and Walker counties were under a severe thunderstorm warning after National Weather Service radar indicated an approaching storm capable of producing damaging winds.
At 8 p.m., a line of storms stretched from near Birmingham to north of Chattanooga. Other storms had developed between Atlanta and Athens and just north of Macon.
