Woman killed trying to cross I-285
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Most eastbound lanes of I-285 reopened about daybreak Wednesday following a fatal pedestrian accident in Sandy Springs.
The incident happened about 3 a.m. near Riverside Drive.
Sandy Springs police Lt. Steve Rose said Lexis Michelle Reed, 26, of Duluth was struck by a tractor-trailer and killed while trying to cross the eastbound lanes.
Reed's Nissan Xterra was found parked against the inside median wall of the interstate. The vehicle was not damaged.
Rose said no charges had been filed against the driver of the truck.
Authorities diverted eastbound traffic off the Perimeter at Riverside Drive for about four hours. All but one eastbound lane reopened about 7 a.m., but not before traffic backed up about three miles to beyond the Chattahoochee River.
The remaining lane reopened to traffic shortly before 8:30 a.m.
