Johns Creek police release 911 call girl made while hiding from burglars
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Johns Creek officials have released the dramatic 911 call made by a 13-year-old girl who was home alone when burglars broke in.
Hiding in her mom's bedroom closet, the teen texted "OMG someone is in the house" to her mom, a schoolteacher.
Then the burglar came upstairs, opened the closet, and "he screamed, we both screamed," the teen told WSB-TV. He asked if she had called 911. When she said no, the man grabbed the phone and ran.
The girl called 911 from the home phone.
"I'm the only one at my house right now. I'm really scared, help me please!" she told the 911 operator the afternoon of May 3. "Come quick!"
The operator took the address, assured her police were on the way and continued to question her.
Operator: "Where are you in the house?"
Girl: "In my mom's closet."
Operator: "How many people did you see?"
Girl: "Just one so far."
Operator: "Don't hang up the phone, stay on the line with me."
The operator later tells her to "Stay calm, stay as quiet as possible."
The girl says she was in the closet with her dog when a man opened the door and took her cell phone.
Operator: "He approached you and took the phone from you?"
Girl: "Yes, I'm really scared, please come."
Operator: "We've got help on the way."
Girl: "What should I do?"
Operator: "You stay in the closet right where you are."
Girl: "It doesn't lock."
Operator: "That's OK. You just stay where you are for now until the officers get there."
Police also released 911 calls made by the girl's mother and next-door neighbor. The neighbor reported seeing two burglars running down the stairs and said they may have left through the back of the house.
Police arrived within five minutes of the mother's 911 call. The burglars had fled with jewelry and electronics. The girl was not harmed.
No arrests have been made.
