Fulton County says a recent report of its handling of the 2009 county and municipal special election showed it had improved performance in several areas including check-in for residents who voted early and  processing of voter registration forms.

The report also says the county improved substantially in the handling of absentee ballots. It also highlighted the county’s efforts to conduct a transparent election process and to improve the training offered to its temporary election and poll workers. The audit credits the planning and preparation work by the Department of Registration and Elections leadership and staff for many of these improvements, the county said.

“Our goal has always been to conduct our elections in the most timely, open and effective manner possible,“ says Director of Registration and Elections, Barry Garner, “We are pleased that the auditor recognized our efforts as we continue our work to improve the our processes.”

Former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel appointed Norman Underwood to monitor the county's election division, according to a county press release.
