No beer sales at upcoming Dobbins air show
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There will be no beer sold at the October air show at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, a spokesman said Thursday.
Dobbins officials had considered selling beer to help offset expenses, said spokesman Jim Weslowski, but the wing commander decided against the alcohol sales during meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.
Earlier this week, county leaders opposed allowing Dobbins to use county transit buses to shuttle crowds to and from the show if beer would be sold.
“Our concern is conduct,” said county spokeswoman AikWah Leow, noting the liability that comes with using county vehicles.
The county had not been notified of the wing commander’s decision, Leow said late Thursday.
“Selling beer wasn’t even proposed at the time [of the county’s opposition], just an option on the table,” Weslowski said. “It was a consideration, but not a priority.”
Negotiations between show organizers and the county for the use of its transit buses is ongoing, he said.
The Wings Over Atlanta 2010 Air Show is scheduled Oct. 16-17 at Dobbins featuring Navy acrobatic flying team, The Blue Angels. The Canadian Snowbirds, a precision flying team like the Blue Angels, and the Air Force Academy’s Wings of Blue parachute team will also perform.
