A Cobb County woman died after falling off the car her brother was driving, according to police. Now, the woman’s brother is facing a felony charge for her death.

Laura Jane Dingler, 23, of Marietta, was on the back of a blue 1995 Nissan Maxima when her younger brother allegedly started driving, causing her to fall off Sunday night, according to an arrest warrant obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“When he took off, the momentum tossed her off,” Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb police said Friday.

The incident happened in front of the family’s home, according to police. Dingler, a student at Southern Polytechnic State University, was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Dingler’s brother, William Brock Dingler, was arrested Sunday night and charged with involuntary manslaughter, a felony; and reckless conduct, a misdemeanor; the warrant states. He was booked into the Cobb County jail, where he remained until Tuesday night. He was released after posting $20,000 bond, records show.

Laura Dingler was a 2008 Sprayberry High School graduate and would have graduated college in the fall, according to her online obituary. Her funeral was held Thursday at Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Marietta.

In addition to her brother, Laura Dingler is survived by her father and mother, D. Scott and Emily W. Dingler, of Marietta; a sister, brother-in-law and two nephews, all of Kennesaw; and her grandparents, of Woodstock.
