By Alexis Stevens

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A student pulled out a handgun during a fight Friday at a high school in south Fulton County, the principal said.

The incident happened at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Principal Brian Jones said in an email sent to parents at 6 p.m. and obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jones stated the email followed a phone message to parents.

“Today a few students got into a fight. One of those students had a handgun, which was quickly confiscated by Fulton County Schools Police,” Jones stated. “As alarming as this sounds, please know that this situation was handled swiftly and immediately.”

Jones did not provide the names, ages or grades of the students involved in the email.

“The student with the weapon and others who were involved have been removed from school,” Jones wrote. “They will be disciplined to the fullest extent of the law.”

No further details about the incident were available late Friday.
