Atlanta

When: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday

The Atlanta police and fire departments will honor the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy at the Public Safety Headquarters, 226 Peachtree St.

Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner and Fire Chief Kelvin J. Cochran will speak in remembrance of the citizens and public safety workers who lost their lives in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Brookhaven

When: 6 p.m. Wednesday

Mayor J. Max Davis and Police Chief Gary Yandura will preside over a brief 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Brookhaven Food Truck Roundup at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road.

The Cross Keys High School JROTC Color Guard will present the flag. Yandura will speak about the impact that 9/11 has had on the public safety community. Children will be able to participate in the painting of a patriotic mural that will be donated to the city and displayed at Brookhaven City Hall in remembrance of 9/11.

Decatur

When: 6:15 p.m. Wednesday

A communitywide prayer service with focused prayer for the victims of 9/11 will be held in the main sanctuary at Briarlake Church, 3715 LaVista Road.

Dunwoody

When: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday

The Dunwoody Charter Commission will hold a special 9/11 commemoration and invocation ceremony in the conference room at the building adjacent to Dunwoody City Hall, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 400.

The Rev. Terry Davis, minister with the Unitarian Universalist congregation in Atlanta, will deliver the opening invocation in honor of the men and women of the Dunwoody Police Department and DeKalb Fire Department. Representatives from each department will participate in the commemoration.

Paulding County

When: 8:40 a.m. Wednesday

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and fire department will hold a ceremony at the 9/11 memorial at Mount Tabor Park, 1550 East Paulding Drive, to honor the men and women who lost their lives protecting others.

The ceremony will be led and sponsored by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office honor guard, the fire department honor guard and the Retired New York City Shields of Georgia. Guests will include representatives from the New York police and fire departments.
