Q: Can you provide any information about John Crow, the host of the Georgia Lottery drawings?

A: Crow, who has been hosting the drawings for four years, is an actor, voice-over artist and professional host. He’s appeared in several feature films, TV shows and commercials, according to his website (www.johncrow.net), and he has a part in the new Denzel Washington movie called “Flight,” which is scheduled for release in November. Crow, who graduated from Lassiter High School, is a first-degree black belt in Shorinji Kempo and an avid mountain climber, cyclist and traveler. Crow has traveled to at least 42 countries, he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in March.

Q: Do parents who home-school their children have to provide proof that they are at least a high school graduate or other criteria? Are they provided with guidelines based on state standards?

A: Parents or tutors must have “at least a high school diploma or a general educational development (GED) equivalency diploma,” to home-school their children, according to the Georgia Department of Education. A home study program must provide “a basic academic educational program which includes, but is not limited to, reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and science.” Attendance records must be kept, and home-schooled students are “subject to an appropriate nationally standardized testing program.” Parents who intend to home-study must notify the local superintendent 30 days after the establishment of the home study program, according to the Georgia Home Education Association.
