Bones believed to be those of a human were found Monday afternoon in Spalding County.
The bones were found near the intersection of Old Atlanta and East McIntosh roads, near Griffin, according to Capt. Tony Ranieri with the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the area around 3:30 p.m. after a passer-by found the bones, which appeared to have been in the area for about a month, Ranieri said.
Personal items were found nearby to help investigators identify the bones, but Ranieri declined to release further details.
“It is too soon to know whether this was a suspicious death,” Ranieri told Channel 2 Action News. “The state crime lab will be called in to investigate.”
