A man died Saturday evening in Lake Allatoona, the fourth person to drown in the lake this year.

Varun Krishnamurthy, 27, from India, reportedly jumped off a platform tube and did not resurface, according to DNR Law Enforcement Division spokesman Mark McKinnon.

DNR and Bartow County officials responded to a call in the Tanyard Creek area around 8:30 p.m. and the body was recovered just before 9 p.m. by Bartow County fire and rescue.

The others who drowned in Lake Allatoona this year are Debra Hansard, 56, Chance Werner, 18, and, most recently, 6-year-old Corday D’Milo Duffy.

McKinnon emphasized the need to be “extremely cautious around these bodies of water” and encouraged the use of life vests to minimize drowning risk.
