Train slams into tractor-trailer at Coweta rail crossing

By Mike Morris

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A state highway in Coweta County was shut down early Wednesday after a freight train plowed into a tractor-trailer at a rail crossing.

The accident happened before 5:30 a.m. on Ga. 154 near U.S. 29.

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation said the truck was hauling sheetrock.

A utility pole was knocked down, and traffic lights were hanging, according to authorities.

All lanes of Ga. 154, also known along that stretch as McCollum Sharpsburg Road, remained blocked at 6:30.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.
