Spalding deputy charged with assaulting inmate

A Spalding County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an inmate at the county’s detention center.

Detention Deputy Jeshon Burden, 33, was arrested Wednesday, after an investigation into the alleged incident, which occurred Monday in the booking area of the jail, Sheriff Wendell Beam said in an e-mail.

Burden, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 11 years, was charged with battery and violation of oath of office.

Burden was released on $2,613.50 bond, according to Beam.
