Kids in homemade, wheeled vehicles will zip down a hill in a Decatur neighborhood Saturday during the second annual Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby.
It’s too late to register — the event is full — but the public can watch children racing down Madison Avenue in Oakhurst on the west side of the city when the event starts at noon. It was established by neighbors who wanted to raise money for Gigi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome awareness center. The event last year had 60 entrants, and organizers collected $4,500 for the charity.
Proceeds this year will go to Our House, a child care and support center for homeless families in Decatur. Information: madisonavesoapboxderby.org and Facebook.
