The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A 55-year-old man was struck and killed on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, according to Cobb County police.

Jose Luis Zamarripa-Perez, of Smyrna, was attempting to cross South Cobb Drive near the intersection of Waldrep Circle when the collision occurred, according to Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Investigators said Zamarripa-Perez was not in a pedestrian crosswalk when he was struck by Nafisa V. Sheriff, 63, of Marietta, who was driving a black 1990 Jeep Cherokee southbound on South Cobb Drive.

Zamarripa-Perez was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Although the collision is still being investigated, Sheriff is not expected to be charged, Pierce said.

Anyone with information about this fatal collision is asked to call police at 770-499-3987.
