The Sandy Springs Police Department has a new crime-fighting tool in its arsenal.
City council members recently approved a $15,894 Justice Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to purchase a Throwbot XT with audio and stealth-like capabilities.
According toRecon Robotics, the Throwbot XT weighs 1.2 lbs. and features a robotic camera that can be thrown up to 120 feet once deployed. Military and law enforcement agencies use the machine to quietly navigate through hard-to-reach structures to transmit video and audio.
These capabilities help agencies locate and identify armed suspects and hostages, surveillance and stake-out high risk areas, Recon Robotics said.
