A former DeKalb County elementary school principal has admitted she unenrolled students before CRCT testing, and then re-enrolled them in an effort to boost scores last year.

Former Rock Chapel Elementary School principal Angela Jennings resigned when her actions were discovered, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“When we learned of this back in May, we took action immediately," Walter Woods, district spokesman, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday night.

The roster manipulation was disclosed just days after the district removed 24 teachers and principals from their roles and reassigned them for irregularities in 2009 state testing.

In a signed affidavit obtained on Thursday, Jennings admitted on May 4 that she deleted 13 students in the third and fifth grades, in order for her school to meet Adequate Yearly Progress standards. Jennings' resignation was effective June 30.

"Before the CRCT test was administered, I sent a letter to the parents of these 13 students advising that they would be withdrawn due to poor attendance, which would cause the school not to make AYP," Jennings wrote. "Many parents then began to complain that their students had not missed that many days."

Jennings said she later realized only nine students should have received letters due to excessive tardiness.

Jennings had been principal at Rock Chapel, in Lithonia, since 2007 and employed by the district since 1992. The school made AYP in 2008, 2009 and 2010, according to the state department of education.

The district informed the Professional Standards Commission about the incident. The commission is still investigating the case.
