A Stockbridge teenage girl with Asperger’s syndrome who disappeared early Thursday morning was found safe Thursday night in Clayton County, local authorities said.

Julia Palmer, 16, was found about 9 p.m. Thursday, walking near a church on Stagecoach Road, Henry County police Sgt. Joey Smith said.

“She was suffering from dehydration but without any serious injuries,” Smith said.

“Julia could not provide any explanation as to why she left nor does she remember how she got to her location,” he said. “There is no evidence to show that she was assisted or aided by any other persons and walked on her own.”

The teen had disappeared several times in the past — most recently in April, when she was found more than five miles from her home.

“Detectives will be meeting with the family this morning to determine what avenues can be made to prevent her from leaving the home in the future,” Smith said early Friday.

Asperger’s is a high-functioning form of autism.
