DeKalb County police have yet to confirm the identity of a man shot and killed on I-20 inside a Maybach luxury car Thursday afternoon.
Multiple sources on Twitter identified the victim as Miami rapper and record executive OG Double D, whose real name is not known. He has recorded with the Atlanta-based Freebandz label, whose founder, rapper Future, on Friday tweeted “RIP #DD.”
The DeKalb medical examiner’s office said late Friday it has not positively identified the man, who was shot multiple times during rush hour traffic on I-20 westbound at Glenwood Avenue.
Witnesses told police that shots were fired from a white SUV, which fled the scene, according to investigators.
An off-duty Atlanta police officer was the first person on the scene, stopping after noticing gunshot damage to the Maybach, which was partially blocking the far right lane and shoulder of the interstate. He had to break a rear window to access the vehicle — which retails at $400,000 and up — because all the doors were locked, police said.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. He died Thursday night.
It’s not known who owns the car, which has a Florida license plate. There were several bullet holes evident in the front passenger window and a few on the driver’s side. Police recovered shell casings along the interstate.
Information about the man also known as Freeband Double D has proven difficult to come by. In the single “Luxury Living,” released last year, he mentions his twin boys and newborn baby, seen sporting a Rolex in the video.
Police said Thursday they have neither a motive or suspect. They released no additional information on Friday.
