Authorities have identified a man who was hit and killed by a train in Marietta.

The man, Anthony McCullum, 27, of Marietta, was walking along the tracks near the Marietta Square late Monday afternoon when he was hit from behind by a CSX train, according to police.

The incident happened a little before 6 p.m. on Polk Street, causing police to block several nearby intersections for more than an hour. McCullum was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital but died from his injuries, said Marietta police spokesman David Baldwin.

“The investigation is still ongoing as to why he was struck,” Baldwin said.
