NBA great Earvin “Magic” Johnson launches the opening Friday of a new transition center for high school drop-outs hoping to earn a diploma.

The opening celebration for the Magic Johnson Bridgescape center will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the DTLR store at South DeKalb Mall in DeKalb County.

Johnson will not be in attendance, but those in attendance will have an opportunity to win a number of giveaways, including five Magic Johnsons autographed basketballs.

Bridgescape is a drop-out prevention and recovery program designed to help people aged 14 to 20 who are either at risk of quitting school or who have left and want to return to complete their high school education.

The program is free and offers a blend of online and small group instruction through Provost Academy Georgia in Decatur.

Friday’s event will be hosted by Hot 107.9 radio personality Emperor Searcy and interested students can register there.
