A student is facing criminal charges and school disciplinary action after a gun was found in a locker at Woodland Middle School in East Point on Thursday.
An unloaded 9 mm handgun and a loaded magazine clip were discovered in an eighth grade student’s locker, Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hale told Channel 2 Action News. A classmate allegedly saw the student showing the weapon to someone.
A resource officer detained the student without incident and the school day was not disrupted, Hale said.
An economy that sent more people to the workforce instead of the classroom, tougher requirements for financial aid, and a higher bar for admissions are among the factors that contributed to a drop in enrollment at the state’s public colleges and universities for the second year in a row.
