Fulton police return Purple Heart Medal
The niece of Robert L. Swinson, a World War II veteran and private in the US Army, will receive his Purple Heart Medal after a citizen found the medal, and returned it to the Old National Highway Police Precinct. Fulton County police worked with Purple Heart Reunited to locate the closest relative of the medal’s owner. A delivery meeting is anticipated in the coming weeks. Kenneth Musisi
Two nominated for Fulton election board
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will consider two new appointments to the county elections board Wednesday.
Commissioner Robb Pitts has nominated former City of Atlanta attorney Mary Carole Cooney to be the next chair. The Republican Party has nominated former Atlanta City Councilwoman Mary Norwood to serve as a board member.
Cooney spent 22 years as an attorney for the city and has spent the last 14 years in private practice. Since 2005 he has served as secretary for the League of Women Voters of Atlanta-Fulton County. Norwood ran for mayor in 2009, losing narrowly in a runoff to Kasim Reed. David Wickert
Homeowners invited to get help at event
U.S. Rep David Scott, D-Ga, is hosting a “Help for Homeowners” event 1 to 8 p.m Friday at the Cobb Galleria Centre. The free event allows homeowners struggling to make mortgage payments or refinance to meet with counselors for information.

Booked for Lunch event planned
Pamela Bauer Mueller, author of the Kiska Trilogy, will be featured at the Cobb Library Foundation’s Booked for Lunch series. The event takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday at The Georgian Club, 100 Galleria Pkwy. S.E. Cost is $30, which includes lunch.

Special election will fill District 71 seat
Following the appointment of newly elected House District 71 Rep. Robert Stokely to the Magistrate Court in Coweta County, a special election to fill the seat will be held Feb. 5 in the affected portions of Coweta and Fayette County.
