APS seeking comment on proposed changes

Atlanta Public Schools is considering changing the start of elementary schools from 8 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., and dismissing at 2:15 p.m. instead of 2:30 p.m. Middle school start times would move back, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:05 a.m., and dismissal times would move back from 3:45 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. High Schools would start 15 minutes later, at 8:30 a.m., instead of 8:15 a.m., and would dismiss at 3:30 p.m. instead of 3:15 p.m.

Two more School Safety and Transportation focus group sessions for public comment are scheduled for: 6 p.m., Tuesday at Carver High School of Technology, 55 McDonough Blvd., S.E., and 6 p.m., Wednesday at Bolton Academy, 2268 Adams Dr. N.W. Jeffry Scott

New speed limit signs coming to Cobb

Cobb Commissioners approved a speed limit sign pilot program that will add 10 “dynamic” speed limit display signs at five locations in the county. The signs display the speed of approaching vehicles. About $45,000 in SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) will fund the program. Info: www.cobbcountyga.gov

School board elects new president

The Fulton County School Board re-elected District 1 board member Linda Schultz president for a 2-year term. District 5 board member Linda McCain was elected to a one-year term as vice president.

Schultz represents areas in Alpharetta, Milton and Roswell. McCain represents the Alpharetta and Johns Creek.

Clayton kids can win trip to Jekyll Island

Twelve Clayton County children will get a three-day, all-expense paid trip to Jekyll Island this summer through a program offered through the Clayton County Parks and Recreation department.

Proceeds from a recent community road race will finance the trip, which is part of the Georgia Children’s Outdoor Initiative.

Applicants must write an essay describing the outdoor activity they want to do.

Submissions must be postmarked no later than midnight April 30.

Fayette schedules stormwater meetings

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners has scheduled three town hall meetings to discuss the recent Stormwater Utility charges for residents in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The meetings will explain the current infrastructure problems and related repair costs. Public input is invited at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13, March 4 and March 25 at the administrative meeting room at 140 Stonewall Ave. in Fayetteville.
