The chairman of Fulton County’s Registration and Elections Board has resigned, just two weeks after a Republican Party appointee to the board also quit.

Chairman Roderick Edmond, a County Commission appointee, submitted his resignation to Commission Chairman John Eaves today. He will step down upon the naming of his replacement, according to a county news release.

The elections department has been under intense scrutiny following polling problems in the July primary and the November presidential election. On Jan. 31, the State Election Board will hold a hearing addressing more than 100 complaints from voters.

“The department is moving in the right direction,” Edmond’s resignation letter said. “Identifying a strong director and implementation of many of the plans identified by the consultant, Gary Smith, will significantly aid the department in carrying out its mission.”

In December, elections board member William Riley submitted his resignation to the Fulton County Republican Party, citing his busy schedule.
