Centennial Place Elementary School third-grade teacher Thomas Bussey is one of 16 teachers in Georgia being honored for excellence in the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program.

Bussey received the award during a surprise assembly at the school, and he’ll get a $1,000 donation for classroom books and supplies.

Chastity Williams, who nominated Bussey for the award and also teachers at the downtown school, said Bussey writes engaging language arts lesson plans and inspires students to read.
