Arrest made in stabbing outside Georgia Dome

By Christian Boone

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Police have arrested a Villa Rica man in connection to Sunday’s stabbing outside the Georgia Dome.

Contrary to previous reports, the altercation had nothing to do with the Falcons’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game.

“Investigators believe at this time that the disagreement started over food at a tailgate,” said Dome spokesman Jason Kirksey in a statement.

Neither James Lewis McCoy, 46, nor the unidentified man he’s charged with stabbing attended the game, Kirksey said. The victim, 35, remains in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

The incident occurred Sunday around 6:40 p.m. in the Dome’s silver parking lot. Georgia World Congress Center police announced Monday that they were hoping to speak with two women spotted in the area but would not say what role, if any, they may have played in the fracas.
