Georgia is one of just 13 states that measure the benefits of their transportation spending, according to the Pew Center on the States and the Rockefeller Foundation.
Under Gov. Sonny Perdue the state hired the consulting group McKinsey to draft a plan showing Georgia's transportation needs, like commuting, freight delivery and economic development, and how they were served by its spending. That research also showed that metro Atlanta could lose 230,000 potential jobs over the next 30 years if it did not invest more in transportation projects and better planning.
